Do You Hear the People Sing?

Do you hear the people singChildren and young people joined together in harmony as part of this year’s Radlett Festival of Music.

Children from Fair Field Junior, Newberries and Shenley Primary School, along with the teenagers from Ursa Minor Choir, performed together in two concerts at the Radlett Centre last Saturday.

The concerts were held to celebrate the talent of Radlett’s young people, and to raise money for Keech Hospice Care.

Each choir performed a set on their own and ended with all of the choirs combining to sing 'Food Glorious Food', 'This is the place', which was written for this event by Elissa Street, and finally 'Do you hear the people sing'.

INTRODUCTION

'Do you hear the people sing' was the inaugural concert arranged by the Radlett Festival of Music

Two years ago we put on a Choral Concert Production of 'Joseph and his Technicoloured Dreamcoat' at the Radlett Centre, with the choirs from local junior schools providing the backing chorus.  The concerts were a resounding success, and raised £750 for the Lymphoma Association, a charity close to my heart as they supported my family and I when my mother had this form of cancer - luckily she recovered and was in the audience for this concert!  'Joseph' gave the school children the opportunity to perform in a professional theatre, and to have the excitement of being on a proper stage, with lighting and sound engineers supporting their performance.

As the concerts went so well we decided to do it again, but this time in different format.  In these concerts each group will perform on their own and then join together in a grand finale.  Thanks to financial backing from the Radlett Festival Committee and a very generous grant from Caroline Clapper we were able to use the Radlett Centre again and to offer tickets at the lowest possible price.

Also, this time we have chose to support Keech Hospice Care by having a collection for this amazing charity which supports and cares for more than 260 children with life limiting illnesses and their families throughout Hertfordshire, and are our local children's hospice

There are so many people I need to thank.   My friends who have kindly given up their time to become trustees and advisors for The Radlett Festival of Music (now a charity in its own right).  Cath Parkinson for her support.  All those named in the programme who have volunteered their time.  Everyone helping back stage and front of house.  Trevor Oakes for agreeing to be compare.  Parents, for providing your children.  And of course, the audience, for coming!
